Brooklynella or Velvet?

I have a new clown who is in quarantine. he has been in hypo sg 1.009 since the onset of white spots. My presentnig diagnosis was Ich. He has since lost his spots but gained a slimy velvety appearance.

I am left to make another diagnosis which is difficult for me given the symptoms.

If he looks like someone spit on him, its Brooklynella.
If his skin looks furry like suede, its velvet.

Well my clown looks like someone spit on him and his skin looks like suede.

So do I raise the sg slowly back up to semi-normal values and treat for brook, or treat for Valvet?

I'm currently treating another qt tank with 6 fish in it for brook. They all get Formalin baths every night. I would hate to treat the subject/tank ni question with cupramine only to find out I could have used the Formalin, of which I have large quantities.

Any ideas? Brook or velvet?

Thanks
Josh

I don't think you need to raise the salinity to treat the velvet or Brooklynella. I'd just start the treatment ASAP, personally. As far as which they have, I couldn't help there. Maybe someone in the fish disease forum could help you, especially with a picture.

The clown isn't showing any behavioral symptoms except that he won't eat meat. He'll eat veggies, but not meat.

Aside from his weird dietary requirements, he has no behavioral symptoms. He's just covered in slime and his skin looks shiney.

I gave him a 50 minute formalin dip last night and he didn't seem to mind. I will do 4 more dips and if he doesn't improve, then it isn't brook and I will treat for velvet. I bought Cupramine last night for this potential purpose.

Thanks
Josh
