Brown algae ID please . . .

Looks like it will be a very nice setup.

The first photo is sargassum.

The one other photo that you call a sponge or algae must be what I thought was dictyota. From a distance it has a very similar appearance.

I'm not sure if you ever resolved you algae questions, but this is my guess.

Padina sp. Also known as Scroll Algae, a calcium carbonate encrusting Brown Algae. I had to patches of this that grew out very nicly. After trying to crop it back it would not grow any more.

the Authors are Littler and Littler.. do a search at bestbookbuys.com to find one avail.. i got mine for under 15$
