Brown Algae

I have a new tank with a few live rocks and 1 damsel. Been running the tank for around a 1.5 months with relatively no problems so far. Looks like i am getting some sort of brown algae on one of my rocks. Is this bad and is there something i can do?

A bit of algae isn't uncommon. Is this a film, or does it have structure, like a plant? Are there any snails in the system? A snail or two might be all that's needed.

Should be part of cycling!!

Brown =normal should clear up
Red/Reddish Brown Slime= cyno meaning too many nutrients try not to over feed

Sounds like a std diatom bloom which is std in cycling tanks .. just ignore it and when the cycle has finished add a few snails which will make short work of the diatoms. In short .. no big deal.

Come to think of it my wife informed me the other day that my kids decided to attempt to feed the fish in the tank and my 3 year old dumped quit a bit of food in there. I read somewhere overfeeding could lead to brown algae.
