The last time I seen this algae was when I used the Giant water, but since then I am using RO/DI water (TDS meter level at 0-2ppm). I moved fish tank back in July, and noticed the algae like a month ago.
The algea is getting nutrients from some where. My guess would be from the sand bed. or if your CUC died off than the animals that were eating it aren't anymore. I would suggest a water change and maybe crank up the skimmer a bit more.
