Brownish/copperish flim on sandbed???

Usually my sandbed is crystal clear white! But lately its been building up this brownish flim. Its not like an algae. Its just like almost gross looking detritus on the sandbed...


Any thoughts?

Sounds Like a Diatom Bloom.Water Changes, GFO, and a 2 day lights out period should knock it right out.

Sounds like Dino's to me. A quick search on the form and you will find lots of answers. Pictures help too. If it is Dino's a quick tie bit on how to get them out of the tank. First make sure your top off and WC water are reading 0 TDS. next do a larger WC than normal. Before the WC hand remove the Dino's. you can go lights out for a few days as well. Make sure all media is cleaned or replaced. Get GFO/phosphate reactor if your water levels are out of wack and finally and should probably have been the first thing I said, test your water
