BRS Group buy

I want to put together a BRS bulk order. There are several things I want and the discount can be substantial. We need 10 people to each order at least one thing. Then you get the lowest wholesale price they offer. If we get 15 everyone gets promoted to premium member for future buys. They make it real easy, everyone must have their own account, place their own order and will be shipped to individually. No hassels w/ collecting moneys or drop off and distribution. Doesn't matter if we are all in the same club or even the same city. You MAY be able to save a little more yet on shipping if you find a friend and gang up your order - thats up to you. Excellent prices and products overall. Anyone interested please contact me. I want to do this within the next few weeks if possible.
Thanks

I agree! Support your LFS if at all possible. Good local vendors are a true blessing in this hobby. BUT, If you havent been to BRS, please go and take a look. They sell many items not available in LFS - I specifically like the ROX carbon and GFO. There are competing (inferior IMO) brands of these types of products which you can buy at LFSs in small quantity. Considering you will continue to buy them over time it really pays to invest a little into reasonable qunatities and save some cash while upgrading the product. Ultimately it's your call. Please check. However I think you'll find that LFss cannot provide equal product nor match the price.

Just some info, the DI resin from Spectrapure is actually cheaper. And performance allegely to be better. (which I haven't tried yet)

Did anyone stop to ask the local stores if they would be able to come close in terms of price?

I've never seen a LFS sell 2-parts or Reef Chili. If they did I would consider purchasing from them. I sincerely doubt they would price match/come close to BRS though. BRS is extremely cheap. I don't think this really applies much to the "shop locally" mentality though as most of these products are not available through the LFSs.

I agree 100%, azsaltman do you own or work at one of these stores? Seems that way. :)

I do support our local stores. For live goods as in fish and some inverts. Salt I always buy at LFS. But when it comes to Carbon,GFO, Two part stuff I will purchase from BRS.

Corals I like to buy from my fellow hobbiest. But if something catches my eye that hasn't spread around the valley I will purchase it from the LFS.

I may be in on this GB. Need to check my closet.

No, I don't work at any of the local fish stores. I used to work at a shop in Missouri. But that was a long time ago. Before e-tailing and Internet stores. Back when an undergravel filter or a Plenum were still standard equipment on most saltwater tanks.

I don't work at a LFS any longer, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't support them.

You can get Carbon/GFO and 2-Part at any local store.

BRS's prices are so low because they don't have the overhead of a Brick and Mortar storefront.

They pay 2 guys to sit in a warehouse all day packing/shipping orders.

Of course their prices are cheaper.

What I was getting at was, did anyone bother to approach any of the locals stores with the question??

If I get 15 people together to do a "group buy" on certain products, would you be able to come close / possibly match prices?

The answer is no.

It's just far too easy for you to go to BRS's website, and spend $$ out of state. Send that $40 to them instead of spending it locally here @ a LFS.

I don't know how many of you here have ever worked retail. But I can tell you.

Sometimes that $40 makes or breaks the day in terms of meaning whether you lost $$ or broke even.

Pet Safari, Aquatouch and Top of the Reef. None of the above carry a 2 part. I can't speak for the mesa/chandler/tempe stores because I've only been to each once. I spend money at all three of these stores on a fair basis. Fact still remains none of them carry a two part or Reef Chili. Therefore, BRS. None of us are trying to hijack sales away from the LFS's revenue, we're simply ordering specific items that we need and trying to reduce the price by utilizing a group buy situation.

On the OTHER hand.

Maybe we could try to arrange some sort of "group buy" of sorts with a LFS on goods or livestock and possibly get a percentage off by bringing in a group of business all in one shot.

I don't know if they would go for this or not?

I know if you were to actually talk to the owner of a store. I'm sure they'd welcome the business.

At the end of the day, $$ is $$ even if it's 20% less then normal. Group buys are a no brianer. You sell the product, might make 1/2 what you would usually make, but it helps your bottom line @ the end of the month none the less.

As for why the 3 stores you mentioned don't have a 2-part.

I know for a fact that the area wholesalers (Central Pet and LeeMar) Stock @ all times the following

B-Ionic
TLF
Brightwell
Coralife
Inland Seas
ESV
And a few others that escape me

If the stores you listed aren't stocking a 2-part on the shelf.

ASK THEM!

I know if I were running a shop, I would want to keep the items on the shelf that my customer wanted / needs.

As for the East Valley stores I can think of atleast 4 in the area that do stock 2-part.

So, ask your store to get it in.

And hit them up about a group buy. I'm sure Pets Inc, AZSB, Aquarium Arts, Any of them would be willing to work with you on group buy for product or livestock.

It's a simple math equation. Sell 20 of an item for 15% over cost. And have those sales "Guaranteed" in the next 7 days.

Or sell 2 of an item at the usuall 30% markup and have those sales spread out over 30+ days.

It costs $$ to sit on inventory.

Money thats lost every day an item sits on the shelf for more then a week.

Please feel free to do as you like but please don't do it my thread. If anyone is interested in persuing Azsaltmans plan please PM him. Otherwise, can we get back to who would like to participate in a BRS group buy?
thanks you.

The reason I don't ask any of them to stock a 2-part is because most people don't use 2-parts and it's not really worthwhile to stock it for just me. Especially when they'll probably just mark it up way high and I'll be paying fourty dollars for an eight dollar product.

I would seriously be down for a groupbuy at aquatouch or something though. I think that would be sweet.
