BRS reactors any good?

Crush Coral

Thinking of buying the dual canister from BRS. Anyone give it a thumbs up or thumbs down? I am concerned about running carbon w/o a filter before the carbon, seems like it would just get clogged up. Any input?

they work fine

nothing clogs

I actually prefer the kent and or two little fishies media reactors though. It seems you get better contact through all of the media and can certainly adjust your flow rate better according to what you see happening and what you want to happen

It is the same as runnign through your DI resin on your ro/di unit so as far as I know it may be at least as effective.........but I like to be able to tune so I can see the media tumble just ever so softly

I just got 2 of the single BRS reactors. With 2 singles you'll be able to control flow to each one individually. They come with sponge filters in them but, like you said, they'll get plugged up and you'll have to keep adjusting the flow to the dual reactor to keep the GFO tumbling. With the single, it's OK if the carbon reactor loses some flow through it as this leads to more contact time with the carbon, but this won't affect the GFO, which needs the right amount of flow to keep it moving.

I like my dual I'm running there GFO and rox carbon never had it clogged only thing I noticed is make sure the sponge and media is leveled before turning it on or else the flow will find the shortest route and not tumble the GFO evenly

fwiw, I used to run the TLF reactor, the original smaller one, and I hated it for various reasons.

I purchased 2 single reactors from BFS this month, and so far I am very pleased

i run the brs reactor without the top sponges to avoid clogging. if you do this just make sure the valve is closed before you plug in the pump and adjust accordingly. Also you might want to have the output flowing into a filter sock if you're afraid of fines
