Bryopsis? How to eradicate...

Garf Volunteer brings up a great point. With bryopsis and hair algae nitrates and phosphates are 0. So why do you want to get rid of it? You don't want to get rid of it you want to make it grow somewhere else besides your main tank.

Try a refugium. I added one 6 months ago and I will never keep another tank without one. You can stock a little heavier, feed properly( at least twice a day none of this every three days stuff), and best of all it will never grow in your main tank. It has basically disappeared since I added one. Make sure the lights in your fuge are brighter than your main tank. This will assure that it will like growing in the fuge more than your display.

By the way no critter will ever touch it including lettuce nudi's. I know I tried them ALL!

The first thing I bought when I started buying items for the reef tank was a...... refugium... I actually make some money locally harvesting Cheato from growing it too much too fast. :D

I have a small patch (tough stuff) that I used to pull all the time with tweezers, clipper, etc. Every time it would grow back slowly. It's never really overgrown that little area though. I haven't touched it in a few years. I do keep my nutrients pretty low now due to keeping SPS and it hasn't been a problem over the last few years. Until recently I've only had my yellow tang pick at it and I see the hermits do their part too. Since upgrading and adding a PBT, Chevron and Sailfin, I've seen them all pick at it from time to time as well and it's now kinda receding. Maybe the YT's picking has taught them all (tangs) that this was a food source. Hopefully it will go away eventually.

Weird. I do have a Kole tang, and it never touches it. He does kill any new coral that has any other type of algae. Within 10 minutes, there is a bald spot on the rock :D

If you've got only a few patches why don't you just scrub the bryopsis off the rock with a toothbrush? Takes 5 minutes. I usually turn on the powerheads after I scrub it and net the algae as it fly's around the tank.

I might do that as a last resort.

Maybe I don't have bryopsis then if you can brush it off w/ a toothbrush. This stuff is like astroturf, it's dug into the LR too  . I literally have to use my coral shearing tools to scrape it off. It does not come off easily.

Mine's not that long, it's more of a turf matt. I think the shortness is due to the tangs picking at it. Same color and hair/bristle like growth . Maybe it's turtle weed/grass :D. But I've seen turtle grass and it's not as dark or tuff as what I've got.
