Bryopsis needed

Hi all - odd request, but I need some Bryopsis, aka hair algae. Britni (from Southwest SW) is doing a project in my lab on larval development of opistobranchs, and they need food for some growth rate comparisons based on chloroplast efficiencies, and Bryopsis is one of their natural foods. So, if anyone has some to spare, please either drop me a line, or stop in to SW to see Britni.

If you aren't sure if what you have is bryopsis, I've included a couple of links here:
http://nio.org/Biology/seaweed/taxonomy/Bryopsis plumosa.htm

http://www.horta.uac.pt/Species/Algae/Bryopsis_plumosa/Bryopsis_plumosa.htm

Unlike the filamentous cyanobacteria that is also called hair algae, true Bryopsis has a definite central stalk from which "fronds" branch off, whereas the cyanobacteria is just a mass of stringy slime when removed from the water.

Thanks!

I have a really good size piece. I'll trade you for a couple grandis. LMK (I think they call it blackmail)

OT: Olin, did you used to work at Desert Divers? I was in their east-side shop a few weeks ago, buying silicone grease to back the suction cups on a nano-pump, and when I explained my purpose, the manager told me about a fellow named Olin who used to work there and was very much into aquarium keeping and aquaculture.

I don't actually have any grandis but I do have some nice neon ignota's if you're interested. . The pics I put on an earlier thread were shot diving in the Sea of Cortez. Britni just needs a few fronds of Bryopsis to start a pure culture.
Tanque Verde, yes indeed, that's me. I'm an instructor with Desert Divers, and I run an aquaculture research lab at the Arizona Center for Innovation where we work on designing vaccines for marine parasites, detection methods for marine pathogens, and marine invertebrate larviculture.

Wow I wish i knew this last month, I just terminated a huge colony of bryopsis. Let me know how the research works out, I have been doing a bit of experimenting on this myself.

I'll try to post a pic later, but it's a palythoa species (Palythoa ignota) from the northern Sea of Cortez that has nice iridescent greens. I have seen morphs of that are similar referred to as toxic waste, radioactive greens etc, but i try to stay away from the "branding"of color morphs whenever I can.

Thats the stuff! Those pics don't really do them justice. Grown under 50/50 PC's or VHO's for a while, they are just spectacular in their glow! MH's don't seem to stimulate the growth of the iridescent pigments nearly as much. TV - thanks, got it and replied. Let me know if it doesn't arrive. Just switched all my files over to a new server for hosting and email. Not something a microbiologist is entirely comfortable with! Got the Bryopsis I needed, thanks for the help all. As the work progresses, we will post pics and observations blog format. I'll post a URL when we start.
