Bryopsis??

Some tangs will eat it, but I think it may be hit or miss. Michael had the experience of not having his tangs eat it until he got a new one that did. :)

Algaefix will not fix it, trust me I've tried EVERYTHING out there on the web!!!!! Everything will work for only a short period of time but they kept coming back and seem immune to the treatment the second time around. I got my tangs to eat them. But it's a hit and miss type of deal. Sometime they would stop eating it for no apparent reason. I had to starve them a bit to get them to eat that stuff and I lost two of my mini tangs through that process. It worked, but the mini tangs (Kole and Flame Fin) stopped accepting food after bryopsis was gone. My Naso Tang only eat it when I had the Kole, they would fight for that stuff. Some of the best algae eating fish I've had good luck with is my Regal and Sailfin Tang. Good Luck cause you will need it! IF you only have a small amount infested, I would highly suggest just to take out whatever they are attached to and just dry it out in the sun for a month to make sure they die.... Just take a loss if it's attached to a piece of coral cause it is NOT worth it!!!!

It is only on my glass but when I scrape it off it just comes back. I just got the new tank set up and I am already thinking that it was a mistake.

Thanks,

Tiffany

wow i was just about to order a lettuce slug i thought they were more effective. Im going to try this. Any one have any long term resuts

I have a real nice crop in behind some rocks, and I will let you know in a few days how it worked for me. Mg was at 1200 today and I dosed about 6 oz of mag (epsom salts mix) and I plan to raise it to 1550 - 1600 for a few days. Hope this works :)

If not, there is also carbon (vodka) dosing that has been rumored to bring the nutrients down low enough to starve it if I'm not mistaken. :)

I thumbed through that thread earlier, and I believe someone said that epsom salt is Magnesium Sulfate, but what you need is Magnesium Chloride. I only read maybe 4 pages of that thread as it doesn't apply to me, but that jumped out at me. I think you need Dow flake (someone mentioned Driveway Heat ice melter too).

Ok guys, IF you looked closely to that thread. I posted stuffs in there as well. I've read from beginning to end of that thread, even though it's very very long.....Dosing Mg WILL work to a certain extent, but some of your corals and inverts WILL suffer!!!! I've measured and tested on a daily basis, YES it got rid of it, but it started to come back just as fierce. The second time it wasn't as easy to get rid of it. I believe I posted that I've tried just about EVERYTHING that was posted on the web. I've fought bryopsis for 4 years, I can tell you my best method is to never have gotten it in the first place. Take a loss and toss out whatever it is attached to right from the start. Or train your fish to eat it! I hope John(gsusfreak) sees what I'm posting here, he have seen my tank before and after bryopsis and he can tell you what a BIG difference my tangs made. Also a sea hare helped with the process. BUT I do have to say, watch the pump intakes with the sea hare, they like to climb on it. Plus once the algae is gone, give the sea hare to someone else unless your able to feed it algae sheets. I learned that the hard way when it died on me. I tried feeding algae sheets but the darn tangs steals it from the poor starving sea hare....

Lettuce slugs works too, but they seem to die off before killing off bryopsis completely. You guys really have no idea how much I've spent to try to rid this stuff..... I've spent hundreds on Mg products, test kits, carbons, etc etc. during the fight with bryopsis.... I can almost write a book on ridding this stuff after 4 years...lol
