i have a biocube29 and the stock pump gave out 2 days ago.......but i had a small powerhead running.

my BTA's were HUGE when the stock pump was off, infact, i've never seen mine that big......now that i've replaced the stock pump with a mj900, all three of them are less than half their max size.

what gives? i thought these things liked some flow!!! and if they didn't i thought they would move!

thanks

Expansion is not necessarily a sign of happiness (or unhappiness). Your BTA may well have expanded when the pump was off to maximize photosynthetisizing area - maybe the water was lower in oxygen content with the main pump off, or maybe greater water flow provides either greater food availability or waste removal, so the anem doesn't have to expand as much.

FWIW,
Kevin

I would agree, happiness does not necessarily mean a hugely expanded BTA

ok sounds good....they seem to be doing well today. i just rearranged some things and added a powerhead so i'll give them a few days to adjust, then i'll feed.

thanks
