Got as a gift on Friday, was pretty bleached (argh) but was taking silversides. Yesterday morning it was looking kinda limp, polyps weren't flat but not very full, and I noticed a tear in the foot. It was moving around the tank, and was on a very sharp pointy piece of rock. 2 hours later the tear was huge, and the nem didn't make it through the evening.
BEFORE GETTING ANOTHER:
Would the nem tear itself on a rock, or would I need to inspect my tank for culprits? The tear could have also been there as the nem never fully opened yet and I didnt get a good look at its foot in the bag, it was all balled up in itself. It was my first nem ( I did do my research first, but like I said, it was a gift I didnt pick out). I have lots of softies and LPS that are fat and healthy (frogspawn, hammer, stylo, rics, pipe organ, zoos, palys, shrooms, gsp) and they haven't been bothered by anything yet (i know, that really doesnt mean anything).
POSSIBLE CULPRITS: I have 2 ocellaris clowns, 2 green chromis, and a coral beauty who pretty much sticks to himself. Also have hermit crabs, nassarius snails, 1 emerald crab, ceith/nerite snails, brittle star, sand sifting star, cleaner shrimp, peppermint shrimp, 2 turbo snails.
PARAMS: sg 1.265, temp 78, ph 8.1, dkh 11, trates/trites 0, amm 0, phosphates 0, 150w halide lighting and over 1600 gph in powerheads.
What would you recommend me to do? Do you think its ok for me to get another? I really love the BTAs...
