BTA diversity... show us a pic

I have decided to restock my 75gal reef as an anemone devoted system. I am also going to only stock with aquacultured organisms (even down to the snails, crabs, etc... my live rock gets a pass as it is 11 years old). So obviously the best candidate for an aquacultured anemone tank are BTA's. I've seen a few different variations and want to see what is out there. Anyone have the bubble gum pink RBTA? Neon Green BTA? The Fiery red RBTA? I have heard of a yellow tipped RBTA but not seen one yet. Please show me what kind of diversity is out there.

Thanks in advance,

John

yep. my nems pics are in that thread. Its a green bta with pink tips. but really when its spread out in all its glory the disk is pink with green striations, green tenicles pink tips lol

My bright RBTA is in that thread too. Its very flourescent but its also coming back from a bleached state. It is coming along nicely.

Here are two different RBTA's that I have.

These pics were taken from two different tanks. The second pic, the clowns have been in there for over a year and will not host.

In the first pic there are other BTA's with the clowns and they were hosting two BTA's for a long time, but have now gone to just hosting one.

Here is a pic of one that has purplish tentacles with green tips showing its purple/pink base

This is the same anemone more open. Actually it is two anemone clones. Both are in other people's tanks now.

Let me throw in a couple more. Here is a green tentacle with pink tips.

Here is a rose from 1995 before the Chinese RTBA invasion.

A GBTA that actually had bubble tips, from 1995 as well.

Wow Phil, that Rose bubble tip anemone is pretty...bubbly. Was it a different type of morph or was it just the conditions that caused it to bubble up so much like that?

I actually like the classic bubble/nipple tips on the green one better.

To tell you the truth, I kept/shopped for anemones for almost 10 years before I saw a BTA without bubble tips. The first one I ever saw without bubbles was in an LFS display that had metal halides.

You are too young to know, but 15 year ago not many people had metal halides or even VHOs. There were no PCs or T5s. If you ordered a 400 watt MH, the FBI would stop by your house to make sure you weren't growing pot in the basement.:)

Most of us reefers(no pun intended) would just pack as many 40 watt bulbs over our tanks as would fit. I used 5 over my 60 gal 48" tank. I had two 20 gal tanks that I put side by side and put 4- 40 watt bulbs over them. I never had a BTA without bubbles and like I said, I never saw BTAs without bubbles in anyone else's tanks. Everyone used combinations of bulbs, usually an equal number of actinic to daylight (5000K to 6500k) bulbs, often two different brands of daylight bulbs.

I don't know if it is a question of intensity or light spectrum or something else, but it sure seems odd that you rarely see an established BTA that actually has bubbles anymore.

I suspect, but have no proof, that whether or not they bubble may be more of a reaction to the color spectrum than the intensity of the light.

The RBTA I have right now lost it's bubbles when I bought it from my friend that had PCs. I have 4x54 watts of T5 lighting with individual reflectors so there is a big difference between 4 watts of PC to the T5s I have. My RBTA lost its bubble tips predominantly and now looks like this:

Before, my RBTA had tentacles close to the ones in your 5th pic Phender. But I agree with you. I think it has something to do with the spectrum or intensity. Possibly both. There are probably many factors.

So many folks these days turn their noses up at BTA's for being so common. I've always like the BTA's....and, I really think that they can make a stunning display if they are in mass. I've devoted 1/4 of my tank to "Rose Rock"....

WOW Steve. That is the best RBTA I have seen.

I doubt it's one, probably a dozen ;)
