BTA goes to bed??

We got our bta Friday. He was attached to a small rock at the lfs and we brought him home that way. I placed him in the tank and he found a place he apparently likes. The last two days, he has been out in his spot looking great. Today he ate a small piece of jumbo krill no problem. However, for the second time, he has completely retreated into the liverock when the actinics went out and the moons came on. Is this normal for a bta?

I think it is normal for them to close up. Mine usually does this when only the actinics are on. If it is acting normal otherwise, I don't think there is anything to worry about.

anemones will deflate and inflate at any time. they are 90% water. Kinda amazing to see a lta the size of a dinner plate get the size of a coaster over night. they are very cool creatures

i think it might have to do with excretion of waste products, but thats just an uneducated guess. by pushing out the water it contains it might also get rid of accumulated metabolic end products?

mine does that every evening in the actinic phase, goes to approx. 1/7th of its original size.

greetings.

The funny thing is watching your clowns trying to get comfortable in a BTA at night. Frequently my female will kick the male out of another BTA he is in because hers has reduced too much. He goes without complaint - and then she rather grumpily flops around in it like an insomniac pounding a pillow.
