BTA in an SPS tank?

Hi all,

I want to add a RBTA for my ocellaris pair to (hopefully) host in. My tank is mainly SPS with some LPS and zoos. I have a LOT of flow in my tank, will it be OK to add a BTA or is this somthing to stay away from because of my current setup?

I know they like flow, but I don't need a BTA roaming all over my tank, killing all my SPS.

What do you guys think?

THANKS!

A BTA can roam and kill your SPS. BTAs like flow, but don't like a ton of it either. How crowded is your tank, and how hard is it to move your corals if your anemone decides to roam? If your anemone is able to find a happy spot it may never move again. You will need to protect your intakes also.

So is covering the pump intakes somthing you do until the nem "seats" itself or is it a permenant requirement? My tank is not TOO overly crowded, but all my SPS are basically attached to the rocks and are basically permenant.

Getting a BTA is not somthing I will do for sure, I just want to be well armed with knowledge before I take the plunge.

Does not worth it. I have had anemones in my sps tank and even if they stay put, corals grow and all in a sudden there is not enogh space for everyone even in the 225 gal tank. To make things worst they will split and then you need to disasemble part of the reef to try to take them out.

You will want to keep them protected all the time. An anemone can take a walk at any time and get sucked in, and shredded.

There are several corals that clowns will host. That may be a better option for you than an anemone. There is never a guarantee with corals or an anemone that they will host.

Why not get a sand dweller anemone where you won't have to worry about anemones roaming on the rocks and splitting?

If it was me I would try a LTA, Crispa or Haddoni...all sand dwellers.

Then definately do not get a S. Haddoni if you have a Mandarin. The Crispa and LTA are still nice choices though...

"Can" be but with strong lighting and the right amount of flow they usually stay in the sand where they prefer.

And the right water parameters and tank mates.

If you can provide the perfect environment for an LTA, and never have it roam, you can for a BTA. Unfortunately they grow quite large and can still sting nearby corals.

I have a mandarin goby and a haddoni carpet and the occ. host in it and the goby is still alive. Granted it has only been two weeks but I havent had any problems so far.

Two weeks...:D

Give it some more time.

I think I have a good spot in my tank that is on the sand and away from my corals (I'll have to move a few). My LFS is getting nems in this week, I'll be sure to let you guys know what happens.
