BTA just split...now what?

Rookie keeper here. My rose BTA just split after hiding for a couple of days. Do I just go about with business as usual in tank care or is there something special I need to do now?

The split may not eat for awhile. You may have had a split due to water issues, and following a split, it's a good idea to check parameters and do a water change or two.

And I was just joking around about the name copier part, even though it appears to me that your name has only 1 different number. Hmmm...oh well. I don't care, really.

it will ikely take a week or so before either half will eat...

splitting dosent mean there is a problem in your tank...some just split...and some dont..

never a bad idea to check your parameters though..

Marine grade silicon would work better. LOL! :lmao:

Great! I do have a few safety pins on hand....I'll try those. As for the name...I used to ride a 2007 Titus Racer-x mountian bike, thus the name. Your use for your name?

Watch where it migrates to. They both may move directly back to the spot where it had been, or it may deciede to do a walkabout.

They will be interesting to watch. When mine split, it was like watching identical twins. Like JeffGil said...Enjoy it. Mine never did move to far apart from each other. they split and stayed put with only a couple of inches between them. My clowns love it. They have each claimed one for themselves.

heard super glue works the best...or duct tape...on a side note...enjoy it as everyone's been saying...a lot of people wish for this to happen but never does...from all my readings...it's not rare, but pretty darn close to it from my understanding

Yah...but with your understanding, well, just look at your signiture!

And I just thought of Titus, then I put two 7s after it. LOL! No meaning what-so-ever. :strooper:

Usually it is recommended to not feed them for a week or so because thier digestive systems are not redeveloped yet.

Ive never had one split. but I imagine after tearing itself in half... it can wait for a little while for a meal. How would you feel? lol

We started with two tiny aquacultured BTAs about 2 years ago and they've propagated now into about 15 clones. Three are nearly 1 foot across and occupy nearly 1/3 of our 180 gallon reef tank.

Other than some early experimentation, we've never intentionally fed the anemones. They seem to do fine with moderately strong light (they move to the upper part of the substrate) and filter feeding. We do have a maroon clown however who often snags bits of krill when we're feeding the fish and carries them to each of the larger anemone. It's like she's gardening.

Anyway, our BTAs clone regularly. After initially agonizing over it, we got used to it. They don't tend to wander much but I do recommend keeping an eye on fresh clones in case they end up in the overflow or sump (have had to fish out 2 so far).
