BTA lost its bubbles

I inherited a large green BTA about 6 months ago, which previously had a tomato clown in it. But the tomato clown had to go, he was nipping everyone. Anyhow, it's been doing good without a host for 6 months, bubble-tipped and all. And then over the span of 3 days, it lost all its bubble tips. It has stayed in the same place, about the same size. No change in water parameters recently. Any reason why they lose them and how to get them back?

I dont know the reason...but almost all the BTA's that i've had lost their bubble tips after a little while.

I have 4 Bta's in my 90gal under 350watts 15000k mh,and 440 watts of Actinic..They all Bubble up under the Actinics, and they all straighten out and loose the Bubbles under the MH's...3 of them are Captive raised RBT Clones..And the 4th is a WC GBTA...My True Perc female hosts all 3 of the Roses.. But dosen't have anything to do with the Green Bta..So i dont think hosting has Anything to do with the Bubbling...
Just thought id share... I Think the Bubbling/not Bubbling has more to do with Lighting than anything else...IMO...

Most of the reading i've done on bubble tips say they'll lose their bubbles under MH but with thrive under florescents. They just don't requite that much light. Or maybe that intense light. Just thought i'd Share. i have a green BTA under 4x96watt PC and it has nice sized bulbage.

Interesting thought....the previous owner I got my BTA from didn't have MH. I've had my BTA for about 5 months now, but it LOVES the bright MH. I have 3 MH across my 180g. The 2 MH on the sides are on less then the center MH. And the BTA planted itself right smack dab under the center MH, I thought because it wanted more light.

When my MHs go off and I have the VHO's on, the BTA will start to ball up and get small. Hmm..odd but cool creatures. But still, I WANT MY BUBBLES BACK! :)

My BTA's seem to bubble up like crazy after they've just been fed, lose the bubbles when they have to poop and then stay un-bubbled until I feed them again.
There seem to be people with lots of different experiences with BTA's bubbling versus non-bubbling, but the general concensus is that it's something that they just do with no real good explanation and sometimes just for no real reason.

I have 2 GBTA. 1 is always bubble tiped and the other is never. They are both attatched to the same PVC base. They both are hosted by the same clown and are fed the same. Don't figure.

How did you get them both to take up residence in the same PVC? Mine don't want anything to do with plastics.

Actually, I woke this morning and the big bubbled GBTA had moved off and onto a rock. The non-bubbled GBTA has stayed, but it came attatched to the PVC and has never wondered. Who can figure them out?
It probably worked out for the best as now the new yellow stripe, who the existing yellow stripe beat the crap out of/so the new had to go into the fuge (which has actually worked out to be a second smaller tank. It is level and sitting next to the display) so I moved the PVCed GBTA in to the fuge and the new yellow stripe seems happier.
I had always planned on anemone tank but while getting matured tank I started putting shrooms, zoos and rics in so now I want to get rid of all but a few rics and shrooms and go all anemone and clowns. Some day though. I didn't really realize how difficult it is to get rid of corals. I used to be a reptile person breeding bluetongue skinks and I couldn't breed them fast enough for demand. I thought corals you could always turn around, but not so. So far though the anemones seem OK with the corals, I am just worried about organic load and I have a large carpet that has been in a LRS for some time picked out but I might need to wait for now.
