BTA pricing

Just got back from a lfs. Have sticker shock, I found a nice little rbta there. It was only about and 1 1/2"-2" across but had nice color. After asking I was told the little guy was $60. Does that sound like a fair price? I bought a similiar sized gbta about 2 months ago at a different store for only $10. New to nems and the difference in pricing really threw me off.

I have never seen even a tiny bta for 10. anywhere. The best place 'round here is a clone from a fellow reefer can expect to pay 30-40. At a LFS your looking at about 50-100. red are usually more than green. One thing you can consistantly expect in anemones at LFS's, that is inconsistancy. I say if you love it, buy it. The alternative is look for a clone for sale, try your local reef club if you have one. You can always order one online but then you have shipping charges, you just can't get around the cost, this hobby is expensive.

well said +1

In Southern Cali, GBTA usually goes for ~$20. RBTA are around ~50 on up. Most of them are at least 4+ inches.

I got one from a local reefer for $30 bucks and it's just split. So hopefully I can recoupe my cost eventually.

If you like it, buy it. Hopefully it'll reward you with divisions and you can make your money back.

$60 isn't bad for an RBTA at a store, Ive never seen one for less than that in my area, unless it's from a local reefer.

i suspect the $10 anemone is the Condylactis as i purchased one last year around that amount. As for a BTA . mine cost me $45 @ LFS and it is of course the green kind. I also have a sebae anemone and it cost me $35.

if you did truly see BTA for $10 somewhere ..i would be suspect of their health. Probably bleaching , gaping mouth, shruken tentacles , etc. is what u get for $10...... "Hey whatta we get for $10".....[Quote from Full Metal Jacket] :)

Its only worth what you will pay for it. Seem fair if the color is poping in a few mths should doubble in size.

DO IT!!!!!

I picked up to RBTA from a local reefer for 30.00! local clubs is the best way to buy coral IMO.

wow that is a sweet price!! I agree, IMO clubs are the best way to go.

It wasn't a condy, it is a gbta. When I found it was only about as big around as a quarter. It's about 2 1/2" around now. It was in a tank with a much larger bta, I'm guessing it was a bud off of that one. About how much bigger should it be than the clowns it is hosting? I have a pair of small wsm's that are a little over 2"(female?), and just under 2"(male?)
