BTA spawn??

Okay, so I went upstairs to feed the fish. Noticed that my 75 was very cloudy, and the BTA was shrunk down to 1/4 of its size. So, I am assuming that it spawned, and nothing else happened. Checked the kalk drip, and it is going at the rate that it always does.

The skimmer is going nuts, so I turned it down a bit, so that I don't have to empty the cup every 5 minutes. Just changed the carbon. And I am about to do a 5 gal water change.

Any other thoughts as to what to do? Things don't look too stressed out right now. I figure this happened sometime in the last 3 hours.

Keep up with the water changes and carbon. How are your fish doing? Keep a close eye on them, you might have to move them until conditions are back to normal if it is indeed a spawning.

Just finished the first WC. The fish seem pretty good, the male clarkii is a little POed right now, mainly because now that the BTA is shrunk down, the eggs are showing.

The SPS all look fine, normal PE, the clam looks happy as a clam. ;) Making some more water right now, and hope to do another WC before I go to bed.

it could very well have been the clam that spawned. ( just something to think about )

it sound like you are doing everything right, i wouldn't turn the skimmer down to much as it is helping to clear the water the most.

I thought about it being the clam, and you may be right. But the only reason that I suspect the BTA is because it had shrunk down in size, it appear to be the only thing affected by this.

Yea, I just turned the skimmer down enough so that the cup wasn't over flowing every 5 minutes.

Did another water change before I went to bed. Looked around with a flash light before I called it a night, and I was seeing normal PE on all the SPS.

This morning things looked normal for lights out. When I get home from work think I will change the carbon again and do another WC, might not be needed, but it is worth it.

The BTA could very well be shrunken because it's bothered some by the clam's spawn. Either way, it sounds like you've handled it like a pro.

Keep us posted :)

Thanks, I am just lucky that I always keep a 5 gal bucket of salt water on hand.

And you might be right about it being shrunk because of the spawn, though I would thought my two carpets ( haddoniis ) would have been affected.

And I will keep you posted.

Here is a picture of the tank from about a week ago. (pre clam )

Besides the blue haddoni, this is the part of the tank that I was really worried about.

I'm certainly not an expert, but your corals all look to be okay.

You've got some gorgeous anemones, sir. That BTA is a certified MONSTER! I love the aquascape too...i wish i had a little more freedom in my little 12g.

Nice tank! I just got a green/gray haddoni to go with my blue similar to yours in the middle of tank.

Thanks. How's is yours doing?

I love my blue one, got it about 6 months ago, the yellow/tan one I've had for about 6 years.

That picture of the corals was taken last weekend, before the spawn.

Yea, that BTA has been with me for a long time now. It hasn't split in a while, which is fine with me.

Thanks, it took me a long time to get that aquascape right. Lots of swearing was involved.
