BTA Success Story

I've had this anemone for almost 1 year now. When I bought it, I was told it was a White Sebae! The 1st pic is in my first SW tank, a 10 gallon:

After about 3 months, it was moved into a 30g where it spent the first 2 weeks deep under a ledge. When it slowly started coming out to the light, it started to change:

This picture was taken on 7/8, 9 months in the 30g.

Then, today I came home from work and found this:

It split, this is the new one:

Now I have 2 anemones for the new 90g thats cycling

The BTA was under MH at the LSF (SW only store.) The 10g had 15w Coralife 50/50. BTA was only in the 10 for maybe 3 weeks before my 30 gallon was ready. My 30g has Nova T5 wth lunar.

When I put the BTA in the 30g, it stayed in the "dark" under that ledge in the dark for 2 solid weeks. It was during this time, that the tentacles started growing out. Concerned about it eating, I flooded my tank with mysis/brine/cyclops/DT's 2xdaily.

Then very slowly, it started coming out into the open light Once it was in the light for most of the time, the zooxanthellae started returning/recovering. This process has been slow & ongoing!

Both are doing very well. Healing up nicely at the splits & have solid footings, that new one won't move to a new rock (darn!) They are pooping in the pic:

Yes, congratulations. A split always adds a great addition to your tank. And congratulations on its health. It's always nice to know when a fellow reefer is able to save a life.

I started a 90g tank recently. My daughter asked me if I would get another BTA. I told her no, that I wanted to get a different species of anemone! The BTA must have heard me, it split the next day! So now, the 90g will have two BTAs after all!

My tank is fed 2x daily with frozen mysis, brine, and cyclops with garlic extreme. DT's every other day. This is the standard fare!

I also provide a wide variety during the week of some other
frozen fishy or veggie food. The BTA's get squid, scallops or
shrimp about 2xweekly. I used to give them chunky food
more often, 3-4 times per week, but that just kept them deflated
and pooping all the time so I cut back to the 2xweekly on spot
feeding.

Heavy feeding is one of the keys to this success story

I have been extremely fortunate in that the BTA footed to one rock and NEVER moved from it so no, I have not had problems with other livestock. When I placed them in the 90 gallon (from the 30 gallon) they stayed on the same rock but moved so their foot was in the
shady/cave side. Last week I gave them a baby Maroon clown and
now the parent BTA is moving away. She does not want to share the clown with the other BTA We'll have to wait and see if she bothers
other corals until she settles.
