Bta thinks it's gonna die?

I bought a bta about nine months ago. It keeps splitting after extreme and slight changes to the tank. I now have nine of them. Is it splitting because it doesn't think it will survive?

They look nice to me, what kind of changes to your tank are you talking about?? And since you have so many sell or trade them for more stuff!!

looks a heck of a lot like the nems i have..they split like mad, too

seems like whenever i see one leave the main cluster of nems, it will wander a couple of feet off...and leave a trail of anemone-lings in it's path as it returns to the main cluster

counting the ones that are still only the size of a quarter, i have about 25 of them in my tank...started with 9 of them about 8 months ago. like Random Aquarist mentioned...i think some strains just split a lot.

I thought they will split when they are not happy. It has split after I changed bulbs, added more flow, and recently moved to a bigger tank. I've got one clone that wandered over to a few inches in front of the powerhead. Been there about two weeks now and doesn't look like it want to move anymore. They seem to act differently that what I have read.

The things you have listed are enough to make a BTA split. I would cover the powerhead so the anemones don't roam and get sucked in. The only thing I would be concerned about is the move to a bigger tank. Anemones need established tanks. How long has it been up and running?

I had one that looked similar to yours and had the same prob. I guess it was a problem, the mother would not grow bigger then a soft ball before it would spilt..

the ones that i've noticed split from the mouth out to the outer edge...then sort of 'spin off' a chunk. that chunk will then break off, working up from the foot, with the outer ridge being the last part to break off from the 'parent'.

then both parent and clone re-attach the outer edges at the foot until the mouth is re-formed in both.

My upgraded tank is a used setup that was still running when I bought it. I've had it running for over a month. Before the split, they don't look any different. Although I do have one that is stretching out and looking like it wants to split. They use to split down the middle at the mouth. But the last couple of splits have been different. The clone is only about 1/3 of the size of the original and the bigger part retains the mouth. The splitting process seem to take less time now also.

One of them must have heard you. Add one more to my total. :spin2:

All your BTAs look healthy and ready to split. ;)

LOL, cool. Mine has only split once in 2 years, and I know they are known splitters.
