i know this question has probably been asked like 6000 times but i looked and couldnt find it so i just decided to ask.

will a rose bta or green bta trive and be healthy under pc's? or do they need something a little stronger. curret setup is 94 watt 10k and 94 watt actinic in a 40 gallon breeder tank with 10 gallon sump.

i just bought 2 percs and i figured if my tank has enough light, i mine as well give them somthing nice. tanks has been up and running for a good 3 years now so im guessing its established enough for a nem, if im mistaken please correct me.

94-watt? I only know of 96-watt. Whatever the case, BTAs do fine under PCs. A 40 breeder is shallow, so you would be able to keep them all the way to the bottom. The actinic is basically useless for a BTA, the 10K is perfect. Assuming the water quality and specific gravity is in the proper range (1.025-1.026), you should be fine.

k awesome thats just what i was hopping to hear thanks

and 96 is what i meant haha i could have swor they where 94 but i just looked haha

BTAs do fine under PC lighting. In order to keep it thriving I would do a few things though. Feed it once a week or so until you get a good feel for how fast and how well it is growing. Second, keep your temperature in the low 80s (but still let it swing). I've heard (from some pretty reliable sources), that the "optimal" temperature for a BTA is about 83 degrees. For every 2 degree drop in temperature metabolism slows by 10%. Under lower lighting, the BTA needs as much energy as possible.

Do you have any links to info on the optimal temp for BTAs? After I read that I turned my heater up a little since it seems like they haven't been growing as fast as they did in the summer.

Temperature is something that many aquarists just don't know much about. There is no set temperature that everything bleaches and dies. If everything in your tank is used to 80 degrees, and the temp never fluctuates, a rise to 85 will stress out the inhabitants and possibly cause deaths. If your temperature is 80 and it fluctuates 4 or 5 degrees a day, a rise to 86 or 87 probably won't kill anything.

Anywyas..... Check out these links for some info. I'll try to dig up more if anyone wants. Those are two that I had saved.
