BTA with white tips?

I've gotta couple of BTAs (just the basic brown/tan coloured ones) which both now have formed white coloured tips (or rather the "bulb" near the tip is white, the very tip and body is still brown) I've had them for ages and they've never done this. I had a mega issue with my tank in Nov last year, lost all my acro's, xenia, etc - all lps and other softies lived, anemones closed down a bit but were happyish. All fish were completely fine. I never could find out what the problem was but had some suspicions (so far have only put it down to rust from a faulty closed loop bearing, because thats when I replaced the bearing - I've left the loop off since, turned it on once 2 months ago and everything started to go backwards again so it's off again)

Anyways, the BTA's have got these white tips from around about that time. I thought that might give me some kind of hint as to what the problem exactly may have been.

Other than the white "bulbs", the rest of the anemones are happier than they have ever been, very full and extended, one hosting a pair of clowns.

Any ideas?
