bta zooxanthellae?

I've have a green Bubble Tip Anomone for about 2 weeks now. I must say it is interesting trying to figure what is normal and what might not be happy BTA behavior... I guess I'm insecure. But I try to ride with it and watch rather than react.

Anyway, Today I noticed is seemed a little bit more translucent, maybe. And I noticed little bits of string and tangled string in some of its tenticles.

Is this normal, or is this a sign of stress and it getting rid of its zooxanthellae?

Thank You In Advance,

Corey

What are your parameters?

How long has the tank been established?

What is your lighting set-up?

What and how often do you feed?

tank has been in my home for 3 years, but has been 'established for 10 or so.

I read

0 amononia
0 nitrite
10 nitrate
ph 8.4
temp 80

Mr bta accepts both shrimp & silversides.

as I said, I had him in the tank about 2 weeks, and I'd say he arrived in good health.

The first week he was under a 175w 10K ushio, I needed to change it so I did after 1 week to a 175 15K Iwasaki (which seems a bit brighter).

Could I have stressed him with the light? or is this a stressed behavior? is Mr bta bleaching?

Could be a little stress. Usually a 15000K light will have less PAR than a 10000K light but I don't have the specifics on the Iwasaki v. the ushio.

Either way the BTA will have plenty of light. My guess is that he is just re-adjusting to the new lighting. Based on just your description I wouldn't be worried about him if he was mine. I'd probably feed him to let him know things are alright and there's no need to move.

If he does expell his zoox (which is very unlikely) it will come out of his mouth just like expelling waste.

thanks for the input.

For what ever it is worth the Iwasaki 15K has more par than the 10K ushio. I saw a hamilton 14K and the Iwasaki looks absolutely nothing like it.

What does the zooxanthellae look like if it is expelled? Will it look like poop or like string?

Thanks Again.

Corey
