i just recieved my BTA i ordered from liveaquaria


i ordered a medium and he is absolutely tiny

he has a nice maroon foot and good color in his tenticles

but he has a fluffy almost cotton ball thing in his center


what is this?

But, you would be surprised in the size difference anemone can go through. My haddoni is over 12" wide, but if I tick it off, it can retract down to a couple of inches. There is a great deal of water inside anemones so it may have expelled a lot of it from stress. Just give it some time.

As for the cotton ball thing at its mouth, it could just be its insides from stress, should pull that back in once it settles. However if it is still like that in a day or two, I would be concerned.

That doesn't look good at all. Though I have seen worse, but not by much. I wouldn't give up on it just yet, but sure would keep a very close eye on it.

What are your current water parameters, with numbers, and including temp and salinity.

water is good...havent done a test this week....but every test i do shows safe numbers

salinity is normal and temp dropped a little today with the cold weather but i have a heater warming it up now

Really need to know the actual numbers, will make it easier to tell if something is off. "good" and "normal" don't tell enough.

Just trying to help, and as much info as possible will go a long way.

ill get some..i have him under pc lights...he keeps moving around the tank..looking for a nice spot i assume


ive had to rescue him from underneath the rocks already

is he ok with PC lights or should i get something stronger?

i just dont have the money for that kind of upgrade right now haha

What type of PCs -- daylights, actinic, 50/50, how many, and what wattage?

And this is for your 55 correct?

correct...

i dont know weither they are actinic or 50/50, etc.

but there are four bulbs..each has two side by side bulbs
and one set is blue 55w and another is 10000k 55w

Okay, so it sounds like you have 2 10,000K 55 watt pcs, and 2 actinic ( blue ) 55 watt pcs,

That will be fine for your 55.

Years ago I kept BTAs in my 75 under 6*55 watt 50/50 PCs

yea he looks good...but hes rather small
considering hes supposed to be a medium

but maybe he will bulk up in time..hes only been in the tank about three days now
