bta's and light

Just a quick story. I put a gbta in a biocube that I picked up off zabjeff. I dont know how old the lights were, but they for sure werent new. Well guess where the gbta went, straight up the false back wall. When it expanded it was, for the most part, touching the surface of the water. I dont have much rock in the tank yet, only half up which for the bta must not have been high enough.

It stayed there, expanded and ate just fine. The cube only has 2 24w pc bulbs. I ordered new ones along with a light upgrade from www.nanotuners.com. The upgrade changes out the fans, ballast and adds a third bulb. I did the upgrade tuesday, no problem. I just looked at the tank and where is the bta now? Sitting half way up the tank on a rock.

I guess he likes the new light setup a bit better:cool:

Yep, I had one that I got from Reef Systems in New Albany. He has everything in the greenhouse under sunlight. When I added it to a tank with a T5 setup the thing shriveled to half its former size (was at least 10" when I got it)
I moved it to a smaller tank with a 250w MH over it and it expanded a bit but it seems like nothing will compare to natural sunlight when it comes to making some BTAs happy.

I have had some other BTAs that have grown and been happy under T5 but not HUGE like the RBTA I got from there. It has never come back to its original size :(

I have 400 MH and I keep the RBTA and GBTA to the bottom of the tank. They seen to like the light and medium flow.

Any of the BTA's I've had have always climed to the upper half of the tank for light, and liked medium flow.
