Been battling bubble algae for few yrs now I tore Down my old tank tossed the sand scrubbed rocks didn't nuke them now I have a bb tank water changes every week all levels are good and I'm still battling. Recently have had only access to well water for water changes but even when my r o was up and running the battle was still ongoing. Any suggestions. have 35 gallon hex and 5 gallon sump . Pair of clowns and a dwarf angel few crabs and ceriths. Softies, lps, and a red monti ,Vertex 130 skimmer.

I've got some kinda crazy interbred dalmation/sailfin mollies that I can just throw back and forth from freshwater to full marine with no acclimation and they just go. They do eat bubble algae but I'm not sure if they can not pop spores like emerald crabs and such. I'm having a similar problem in a 53gallon reef and am going to try them out I'll keep you posted. One word of warning though they will eat every bit of macroalgae in a tank. they'll eat microalgaes first but if you don't get them out... I lost a bunch of red graciella and blue hypnia after I let them clean hair algae out of my fuge and left 3 mollies in there for 2 extra days after hair algae was gone, and it only took them 3 days to clean a 53 g completely covered in hair algae.

My tests are reading zero also am carbon dosing vinegar but tests are Api and are just about outdated.i know the well water has a lot of iron in it so that's prolly a big algae feeder but like I said even when I had ro I was still in the fight.

As long as you're using well water I think you're only choice is to get enough emerald crabs, or something else that will eat it to keep up. I know you say were having the problem before with RO also but with well water you're pretty much prone to have big algae growth, everyone I talked to when I first got into this when I asked if I could just use well water instead of buying RO system said exactly " you can, but you will have lots of algae" , it's the one thing I never got conflicting answers on , lol.

Lol yea it's pretty demotavating doing water changes for the greater good of your tank when your just replenishing the the nutrients for the ****************++++++£?|!|£]!]+|!|¥|!]¥|!|£~!~+| bubble algae. Well waiting for Uncle Sam to drop off my taxes. Moving into city water next wk a new ro unit is on the menu
