Bubble Algae

All, I need some help. Not sure if you all know this or not but had a disaster occur about 6 or 8 weeks ago now. To make a long story short a GFI breaker tripped at about midnight one night, anti-syphon did not work and drained the tank down about 6 or 8 inches of water. Tank temp got to about 92 and trashed the tank. Anyway I now have a larger sump and have made some mods so that we do not have that disaster again (Thanks John for the sump)

Anyway I am now in a constant battle with bubble algae. Short of removing rock piece by piece and scrubbing does anyone know of anything what will help rid the tank of this stuff?

Thanks

I know they say not to pop them BUT I did have a few on my rocks a long time ago and I popped them and they have never come back. Maybe it was part of my tank going through some sort of cycle and now that my water is better they are not popping up. I har emerald crabs and they didnt do anything.. Maybe I just didnt have any male ones.

If you find any of those crabs, please let me know. I have a moderate problem with the bubble algae myself and haven't seen in any lately (and how do I know if they're male?!?!). It's an on and off war. On when I'm lazy. Off when I'm not.

I kinda liked my little bubble algae look. Made it seem more natural. I didnt think they were bad, but in time they all left and Im out of bubbles. :(

Well maybe I should harvest and sell the stuff, I have plenty.... LOL

angelsil. I'll let you know if I find any, only place I have seen them is online and then you do not get to pick what you want. But the male female thing I would think would be like any other crab.

Emeral Crabs

Emeral Crabs

I used Emeral Crabs, and they worked, but then they also served themselves to my Orange Cap and an Acro.

Was able to flush 2, but one still around, but he seems to be behaiving. Hmmm, maybe he is a male;-)

Pedro.

Warnberg, thats probably a good idea, seeing that prices of zoanthids are booming and soon I wont be able to afford a polyp. How much for a mean green bubble?? Do you have any reds??

If your bubble algae is at a infestation level do not waste your money on emeralds it is hit and miss and they only go after the very small ones.. Get your phosphates and and nitrates down and remove rock and pick it off. I had a bad problem about a year ago, It was the only way.

so quick to say the only way people are these days. ;)
anyway desjardini tangs aka red sea sailfin tangs. I recently heard about naso's eating them also. I have witnessed desjardini's eating it and it used to be a well known fact to the old reef heads back in the day. that was before rc . i don't think baby tangs will eat it but you never know. i had emerald crabs that ate it in the past but I never checked under there drawers. how do we tell if they have testies or not?
all you guys need to do when looking for things is to grab the phone and my first call for them would be john. then you would be on your way to get them from him for I think $4 each. he had around 10 of them on saturday.
