Bubble Blaster Pump Problems

i also had problems with my sro 5000 external cone everytime i would shut the pump off it would have start up issues so i had the pump replaced it's been 4 months and no more problems but i had a problem with the original pump from day one so i would say some pumps might be defected with factory issues

customer service is the greatest! these guys take care of you fast. My pump is dead silent and i have had 2 already.

Bump me $400 and I'll consider getting a new skimmer. Just joking, but it really is an awesome pump (when it isnt crammed full of calcium buildup) and I hope they are improving on it overall by us "the consumer" giving them feedback.

Hello dun2run are you saying you have problems with calcium buildup in the pump? I have the BB 1000 and have to clean it once a month or so to keep it running properly. Soaking in vinegar solution does help but it's a bit of a pain to tear the whole skimmer down once a month. Coralvue suggested cleaning it once a month and I suggested that their next impeller have some sort of coating on it that repels the calcium. I even get calcium on the impeller shaft which isn't supposed to get any at all.

I too had some problem with restarts on mine in November. My magnet had swelled and was contacting the housing. They immediately sent me a new impellor and it was coated or made from a different material.

With the old impellor I had noticed the pump was hot to the touch but with the new impellor it runs cool. The new impellor has been running for five months and I have had no problems now. I do turn it off once a week just to make sure!

Whats really weird is my powerheads don't get the buildup on their impellers nor does the canister filter. Maybe the air injected causes the calcium to stick to it?

Recently I was looking into a new skimmer and did a lot of research on a few models and the XP-2000 SRO was at the top of my list. However, I found mixed reviews on the bubble blaster pumps, from great to poor. Most people seemed to love them, but I also read quite a few reviews about noise or impellers breaking. I also found a local listing on Craigslist of someone selling a XP-2000 SRO less than a year old. However in the listing he mentioned it had a brand new pump, so I called to inquire has to why it had a new pump, I found out it was replaced because it had broke. I will say the 3 year warranty sounded great but if you have to use it all the time I'm not sure it's that fantastic. And while I never saw anything but helpful people when I talked to Coralvue, I also heard people complain about customer service. I definitely can't say I personally saw that. However, I did see enough documentation of pump problems to steer me away from the bubble blaster though, kinda sad because I read so many good reviews too. I'm not sure if it's poor quality from the Chinese company that makes these pumps or what, but I hope they fix the issue. Because from what I've seen when they work there not a bad pump.

I also did alot of research when they first came out. They were always out of stock so I found one used on rc (2 weeeks old... guy went external)so Ibought it .Then 9 months later yhe pump failed and found out the hard way warranty is NON-Transferable.Imo the pumps aren't any better than sicce and that's why In stayed away from skimmers with that pump.Coralvue said they would sell me a new pump I declined.I was very unhappy with this pump.I wish there was a mod to use a different pump.

My pump was only lasting 10 days before cutting out due to the calcium buildup so I contacted CoralVue again. They sent me a newer style pump with an impeller made of a different material, this impeller won't fit on my old pump. After running the new pump for a month, I tore it down for it's first cleaning thinking there would be calcium buildup on it. To my surprise there was ZERO calcium buildup, ZERO! This pump runs so much cooler now, barely warm to the touch whereas the old one would get quite hot.
Cheers to CoralVue for sending me a new pump, all they asked was that I return the old pump, top notch customer service in my book!

The exact same thing happened to my impellar. Coralvue customer service was excellent and I now have a new pump. Hopefully this issue won't happen again.
