About 4 days ago I picked up a green bubble coral. he was doing very well in the LFS. i dripped him and added him to the tank. he hasnt come out and is deep in the skeleton. not entirely sure what is wrong. we tested the water yesterday and all seems to be fine. any suggestions, ideas, thoughts?

Possibly too much light or too much flow. You might want to place it on the bottom of your tank for awhile and see what happens. GL.

thanks!! it seems to be working. the large bubbles are completely gone but it looks like there are little ones. almost as if its coming back to life.

Ouch! I hate to say it, but that coral does not look good right now. Maybe just chalk it up to the odds... For whatever reason, sometimes they just don't adapt.

he was so much work before. now he doesnt look as bad as he was. all i can do it hope that he will come back. the guy at my LFS told me not to take him out until no bubbles are visible. so all i can do is wait.

Definetly don't take him out, even if they look totally gone I leave em for a while, sometimes they manage to just barely survive. I also agree with the lower flow and light, I don't think you mentioned your lighting??

its a T5 high output. sorry it took me so long to write back things got very busy for me. water parameters are all normal. hes starting to grow back and im sooooo happy. im glad i didnt throw away the skeleton

They like very low flow. As the polyp fill with water they become very thin as they expand, if they feel pressure of flow they may not fully open.

My bubble was huge and always opened up and looked like he was going to flop over lol. Now he doesn't open as much and the main reason is the flow. I upgraded to the Jabao wp 25 in my tank and the flow bounces off the glass and down the side then along the sandbed right where he is. I'm going to have to move the bubble or re-direct the flow. I'm glad to hear that your bubble is recovering! It's my favorite coral and I don't want to lose mine either.

Yikes, doesn't look too good right now. hope it pulls threw. I don't know if it matters but I seems to loose more corals when i do i long drip acclimation verses just a quicker temperature acclimation.

Just an afterthought but are you dipping your coral before they go in the tank and have you checked it for any bugs or other illness?

ive been tempted to buy another bubble but i feel if i do itll be like im giving up on the other one...

Somethings I tell myself when I have similar thoughts:

  • It's not a plant, it's an animal as much so as a human, dog, cat, chimp, etc.
  • You've been entrusted with caring for this animal just like a four-legged pet.
  • If it's sick then either it had something I never knew about that just manifested or I allowed it to get that way because of something I did or did not do, so I'm even more responsible.
  • I need to do whatever I can to get this animal healthy again.

I'm not saying you don't have similar thoughts, it just helps me when I get frustrated about a coral or fish getting ill. :)

hahahaha this a great way of thinking. i always feel bad looking at other bubbles and my brother is always there to remind me that i have one already that is getting better.

thank you for the words of wisdom. it really is a great way of thinking because you are right it is a live animal.

Glad it helped. :) I forget myself at times and just wanted to share how I bring myself back to the present. Haha
