Bubble King 130 vs Mini Bubble King 160 ?

Hello,

I have a BK 130 I got a few weeks ago but I would like to have some extra space in my sump for a carbon reactor so I was thinking on switching it for a Mini Bubble king 160. I have a Reefer 250 with a good amount of fish and I would love to get a skimmer with the controllable Red Dragon pump but all of them seem to be rated for larger tanks. Any suggestions on what skimmer to get or if I should just keep my current BK 130?

Thanks!

While the Double Cone 130 is ideal, you could go with the Mini 160. It might be a bit inconsistent unless you run it wet or have a legitimately heavy load which would be around 25" worth of fish and relatively heavy feedings. It would be easier to tune than the 130 that you have now since you don't have to mess with the nozzle which may not be a bad thing unless you already have the 130 dialed in. Any of the larger skimmers with the RD3 pumps would be way too large for your setup and wouldn't be consistent. As such, I'd stick with the Double Cone 130 or get the Mini 160.

Thanks! It looks like I'll be keeping my BK 130, it took me a while to calibrate it but it is a beast now. Do you know if Royal Exclusiv manufactures custom size sumps?

There are not custom sized sumps available however, there are a pretty wide range of sizes and configurations. You can see all the different versions here on the international site:
These are the Dreambox 2.0 which uses filter socks:
https://royalexclusiv.net/en/dreamboxes/dreambox-filter-sytems-2-0/

And the new 3.0 roller setups. Once you click on one of the models, you can click the “Dreambox Overview” document to see the other sizes available.. This is particularly useful for the Dreambox 3.0’s and Eco Dreamboxes which don’t have all the sizes shown on the website.
To make it easy on you, here is the Dreambox 3.0 document that shows all the different size ranges:

The Eco Deambox Document. https://royalexclusiv.net/images/content/dreambox/dreambox_filter/eng/ECO_DB_list_eng.pdf

The price in Eu with Vat is pretty close to US dollar price after conversion so that would give you a good ballpark on pricing if you were ordering one that was being built in Germany. Shipping obviously varies depending on the box you order and where it’s going.

Thanks! I guess I will have to wait until my next build to be able to fit one. Do you know if there will be any black friday sales on pumps? I was looking for the 80w pump but I don't see it in stock so I was considering the 150w.

Keep an eye on Premium Aquatics and Aquarium Specialty. I know Premium has the 150's in stock. The 80's are out of production right now and waiting on a new pump to fill the void which should be released some time early next year. We don't have an ETA or the new spec yet.. That will be announced once we have more details and a release date. The RD3 150 is an amazing pump though. It shares the same motor and controller as the RD3 230. I've been running a pair of the 230's since they were released over 2 years ago and absolutely love those pumps. The are amazingly powerful, silent and build like a tank.
