Bubble King Deluxe vs Super Marin Skimmers

I notice that there is two kinds of BK skimmers out there, but not so much information as to the difference between the two. I see that the main difference is the the Deluxe is run by one pump while the Super Marin is run by two pumps.

Also, i notice a lot of talk regarding the BK fittings are based on metric and not inches. Would it be difficult to plumb the BK? I am looking into getting the external version so to free up space in the sump.

Any input would be great.

Also thinking about a similar deltec is you have opinions on that as well.

Thanks.

Jim

The Supermarins are actualy driven by one pump until you get up to the SM300 model. There is no plumbing required for the Supermarin line.. You just need the required space in your sump or some other remote location. They will draw water from whatever container you place them in.

I have the exact same questions...

So if both are driven by one pump, what is the difference?? Which one is "better" ??

You will get rave reviews from owners of both designs, but I only have experience with the SM250 so, I can't personally comment on the Deluxe models. However, It's my honest opinion that the design of the SM line is outstanding. It has a dual cone design that channels very fine bubbles up from the bottom of the body to the neck. This design is exclusive to the SM line and was probably done beacuse of the shorter height of the SM line. My guess is that it uses the dual cone to counter balance it's lack in reaction time due to the shorter height, wide body and neck. The weekly skimmate production of the SM250 is short of amazing on my system(240 gallons). Here is a 5- 7 day pic.

Ah.. so the main differences then are just size ?

Thanks for the input. Did you have any problems with sizing any tubing since its all metric connectors ?

The pump sizes are different as well. At the time my dad bought his 250 deluxe the guy from my LFS said that the pump is a little bigger on the Deluxe 250 compared to the SM 250.

There are differences, my suggestion is that you visit either Premium Aquatics or Aquarium specialty' swebsites. And compare the specs for yourself. For the SM250 and the BK Deluxe 250 internal, no fittings are required. You simply sit them in your sump at the desired water level and the skimmers take care or the rest. If you go with an external BK 250, then you will more than likely have to find metric fittings.

Ya, these would be going on a 210 gal 60x30x27 .. the size of the skimmer would not be an issue since the sump will be going into the basement. I will try to make the sump big enough to hold the internal versions of the skimmers. And yes, I will over-size by one step (so probably going for the 300 version)

Just confused on which one to pick..

You will still be over-skimming with an SM 250 on a 210. They are rated for up to 700 gallons.. You'll be fine and save some bucks in the process..

my vote would be SM. Even though my dad has the deluxe and really likes it, I like the design of the SM better.

I have used about 6 different model's from BK and have to say that the supermarine 250 I am using now, is hands down the best design from bubbleking.

I am curently running it in a 300 gallon tank and it pulls some nasty stuff out:bounce3:

Hi, does anybody knows whats happening with new sm 300?, i recently bought one sm 300 but my aquarium dealer told me that those skimmers are sold out in usa and theyre comming from germany with new red dragon pump. but how long doeis it take??????
thanks

pd: ill be waiting for 2 months

Why the deluxe model cost a lot more?? The supermarin 300 costs about $1,994.95 and deluxe about $2,267.98.

The supermarin 300 comes with 2 pumps!! One is Red Dragon 2000 Master and 1500 Slave.
The deluxe 300 comes with Pump Model: RD 2000.
If just the 1500 pump costs about $ 740, I can not understant why deluxe models costs too much more than supermarin...is almost impossible!!
