Hi! I have had this little for a week now. He has kinda seem sad since we got him. I have 2 clowns hosting him weel today I noticed the female picking his foot and ripping something off. Well I went to the store where I got him and they told me to isolate him. It looked like cauliflower on his foot. I did and now it looks like its come out of his mouth but it turned out that its his foot. He has a hole straight through his body. =( I don't know what to do.. Is he dying or splitting? He is still reacting to touch so I'm at a loss.

Kh/Ph is normal.

He's dying. :/ Potentially, the clowns smothered him to death - he does seem pretty small. :(

Only chance is to keep him isolated, keep up the 'fresh' water and maintain good parameters. He can only make it back himself now.

It's still salvagable. Read the 'cipro treatment for anemones' stickie at top of page & treat it in QT ASAP. btw, what are your water parameters in numbers, how long has tank been up & what lighting do you have over it?

He passed this morning... :( I'm soo upset. I had 2 t8 bulbs(my T5 light hasn't gotten here) and a strip of blue and white LEDs. I moved him to that box and he was reactive and such and this morning he was falling apart. I have another anemone that is a rose tip and it's bleached. I let my other two clowns host it. I thought it would help. Should I separate them?
I haven't tested. I will test everything tomorrow. I only have the anemone and Kh test. I take water and have it tested at the aquarium store. I really need to get one.
I can't lose this one or I will cry. Not cause the money spent. :( any suggestions on saving this guy. I'm target feeding him and have him isolated with the clowns. He is right below the light.

Can you use cipro with bubble tips?

Sorry to hear that...It's always rough to lose these sensitive creatures in our care. Do a 25% water change for starters. Yes, get the RBTA isolated alone w/o the clowns in a QT. Get a good test kit of your own. That's also not enough light for the RBTA either. When do you expect the t5's?

I did a 30% water change a day ago. Should I do another? Okay he is isolated. What kind should I get? A reef test kit? I'm not sure it doesn't have tracking I also not sure if it shipped today or if it will tomorrow. It's standard shipping since it didn't offer any other kind of shipping. :/

+1 on Salifert test kits...Cipro is a broad spectrum antibiotic & is ok to use w/ RBTA, though more often used on carpets since they're very difficult to acclimate & alot get ill. If the RBTA is bleached, just getting it in proper lighting & small weekly feedings should help it regain it's zooanthellae. If the 30% water change was done before you took out the dissolving nem, I'd do another water change today. Good luck!

How old is your tank? Anemones need very stable water and your tank need to be at least 6 months old.

I have never heard of that kit. Sadly the water change will have to wait until Thursday. :(
Thanks!! My tank is 2 month but I'm also pouring reef supplements in the tank. No one warned us about it. I thought it would be okay but they never tried to stop us. I feel awful for doing that to that poor thing.

Be careful about supplementing without testing, my rule is that I only add supplements for things that I can test. I'd stop all supplements, and stick to weekly water changes.

I, too, don't dose anything I can't test for. Drsfostersmith should have salifert test kits if your LFS doesn't. I'd also suggest you not add anymore livestock or corals until you're able to keep your water parameters stable.

Oh okay. I thought I needed this to feed my corals? Okay I will look into it! Thank you soo much! I'm not adding any thing else. My clowns are searching for the anemone. :(
I have the pulsing coral. I thought you can't do water changes that often?

Usually a weekly or bi-weekly water change is enough, but that anemone released all sorts of toxins into the tank when it died. About a 25% or 30% water change ASAP is needed.

Never trust you lfs , they just want to make money. 2 months tank is way to early for anemones and without testing the water you will never know if you parameters are in range. I have been in the same road as yours many years ago , trusting lfs ,didn't know that you need to test water. Start losing interest in the tank, because corals and fishes keeps dying and got tired of the cyano outbreak. Finally after 6 years I throw the tank away. Took a break and did many search on the internet and back in hobby. Tank is thriving now.

If you have questions you can always ask here on RC......you will learn a lot here . I am still learning a lot of things here.

Okay! I will do a water change! D: I'm glad the only things I lost was a snail and the anemone. Yeah that's true. Every time it go there they try to sell me that stupid kessel. It's pretty but way to expensive!! They want to sell the most expensive not the cheapest that works too. :(

If possible, find a better LFS. I'm very spoiled here in FL, I have 5 within 30 mins of my home. However, IMHO, it's worth driving 45+ mins to find a store that has ethics, and advice that has your best interests in mind!

Here's a great litmus test for an LFS: Ask them if you should put an anemone in a 2 week old tank. If they say yes without asking any questions, they're only out for short-term profits, and have no ethical responsibility to the livestock they're selling, or to you.

If they ask you how long the tanks been up, if you've tested Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, and have seen it cycle, etc., You've found a trustworthy LFS!

Furthermore, if you find a LFS that tell you they will not sell you a fish/invert, because it's not good for your setup/size tank/tank age/experience/care level. That's a good store!

I went there almost everyday getting my water checked and buying live rock. I went there and got a clown and the anemone and she said nothing. She didn't ask about my tank.

Sounds like you should look for a better LFS :deadhorse1:

Have you looked into reef clubs / meetups in your area? They'll have good advice as well!

Do you do your own water testing?
