Bubble Tip Anemone Problems

They can split because they are very healthy or very stressed. The if the anemone starts to look more white or traslucent then that is from the light and stress. If you have stable good parameters both halves will survive

I keep a BTA and a Condy... Very happy nem's, so I'll echo what others have said

1) lighting. Get this under control
2) p04... Mine swings around 0.4-0.5, but any higher and they look like crap
3) feedings... Shrimp, crab, clam, silversides... All readily available.
4) stop moving them and their homes. Nem's are not a coral you can place for your viewing pleasure. Let them find their own space, and move your other coral to suit them. Once they are happy, they generally move very little.
5) bring your salinity up. I keep mine at 1.026. It works. Do it slowly. They really despise param shifts.
6) get an ATO and make sure it's working.

Not sure if you actually ment .4 and .5 for your phosphate readings but you want them aroumd .03.

Also dont feed anemones silversides, there have been recorded setups where anemones have died from them.

Sorry but what is ATO?

Sorry, I meant .04

Didn't know about the silversides. Knock on wood I haven't had any problems. I'm going to look into it.

ATO = auto top off. To replace RO lost and avoid swings in your params.

This morning Two of my BTA have ended up right next to one another and they are touching, is this a problem will they affect one another?
should i relocate one of them?

Also today they are looking better more colorful and they have small bubbles.

I think they just hungry. Feed them shrimp from grocery store (at least half a shrimp 2 times a week. depends on size of your nem)

So how dose BTA reproduce?

do they just split over and over again or do they spawn and fertilize?

are they different sex?

this may be a silly question but i have never really thought about it until mine split the other day.

Update on my BTA,

I have not had the chance to sort anything out with my lighting, but i have changed my feeding, have been feeding them Squid 2-3 times a week and they are looking great their bubbles are back and they are colorful again :)

so things are looking good for now

thanks everyone for the help and advice, much appreciated

My BTA in the last week has moved on the back side of a rock in the back of the tank in terrible lighting/flow. Was hoping he would move but a week in he's still there. Should I pull the rock and move him, or just let him figure it out?

Let the anemone go to where it wants to be, they will move to where they are happy that doesnt always mean a spot where your happy though

I have a similar problem. Mine used to be nice and healthy, but then moved to the back of a rock, with no lighting. It's not moving out and now it's never opening up anymore at all. Lately even the two clowns have stopped hanging around it. I hope its not dead.

I can't move the rock too much, because there is a mushroom on the other side of it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I just skimmed through the thread, but it's worth noting that you don't need to feed nems at all. I've never fed any of my bubble tips anything...ever, and they look great. They're mostly photosynthetic.

wrong. there are times you need to feed an anemone. for example when an anemone is severely bleached it cannot obtain food from photosynthesis because it expelled all of the zooxanthelle that breaks down light into energy.

however. a healthy anemone does not need to be fed.. as long as lighting is sufficient. if lighting sucks then feeding them makes things so much less stressful for the anemone.
