Bubble tip anemone

Ive been told by the LFS that anemones will move around the tank looking for a better area until its satisfied. I also read the very in-depth packet available here, great read by the way! Anemones prefer high lighting and medium to high flow. I have a 60 gallon cube with 250watt MH fixture. I positioned the anemones pretty close to the power head. I originally thought i did a good job positioning him because for the first week he never moved. Just minor re-positioning in the same spot. I had moved a frag of pulsating zenia away from him cuz i read anemones will sting when they move. I put the zenia back thinking the anemone wouldnt move. Well i was wrong!! After a week of no movement, hes been moving almost every day for 5 days now. It seems likes he prefers that high rock in my tank, just moves all around it... he stung and nearly killed my zenias!!!


My question is that is this minor movement something they do in the beginning regardless of whether there happy or not? or is he just not satisfied with lighting? water movement? or is something else going on

ON the opposite end, I've had mine for about a week now and it has just crawled under a rock and come out a little. Hasn't moved since...I'm waiting for it to come out to it's higher lighting/more flow area...hope it does.

Can you get a better pic of that anemone? It looks like it's bleached in the pic you have posted above.

It's bleached Bubble tips are never white. Unfortunately, you were sold an anemone that will more than likely die. Some people have had luck nursing them back to health, but more often that not, they die. I tried it myself once, hoping for success but the nem just started shrinking up until I eventually had to remove it. Can you return it to the store where you purchased it?

i think the light is making it look more white that it is. the actual color is like a yellow lime ish

i cant get an accurate pic of mine either - the light washes it out!
I had someone give me a good explanation of why they move - think about when you are in your living room. You may move to the other side of the couch to get out of a draft, or near the window to feel the heat, or over to that chair cuz its more comfortable than the other chair...

I think it is bleached and not the camera. If you can see through the tentacles, it is bleached. I am not saying that you cannot save it, just that it is not the correct color.

From the second pic it does not appear to be badly bleached if it is bleached at all. The anemone appears more green than white. E. quadricolor are pretty tough anemones and if provided the correct conditions, I would say that your animal can make a full recovery. Be sure to feed more often with meaty items until it regains its zooanthallae. A better picture would help, but I also think that the halide is effecting the actual coloration.

To answer your question, the anemone will settle down in a spot once comfortable, and it can take a few days or even a week to find the perfect spot.
