Bubble Tip Hesitance

I was visiting my LFS a while ago when I saw a BEAUTIFUL Bubble Tip on sale, I had purchased a bubble tip about a year ago, but due to a fatal accident, it ended up in a bucket of fresh water (100% my mom's fault :o) It also wasn't looking too good anyway before the incident, so now I'm kinda hesitant to buy another, my current Reef is 75 gallons and has a four bulb T5 HO fluorescent lighting fixture by Aquatic Life, comprising of two actinic bulbs and two 10,000K bulbs. My species list would have no problem with an anemone, and the filter consists of simply a 14 gallon Sock/Sump filter with an in-sump protein skimmer. The species I am looking at is only about 5in across, please advise me as to whether I should take the "leap of faith" to buy another!

for a 18" high tank, I would think that would be close to the minimum lighting for a bubble tip. I had a 4 bulb aquatic life fixture with two 12K lights and two superblues on a 90 gallon and my BTAs did well and grew in the tank. Personally I would up-grade you bulbs to a little higher K value to be on the safe side

As long as your water quality is in line you should be OK

Just remember to slowly acclimate him to you water and your lighting

Actually, I think lower k value light is more useful to corals and anemones. 6500 k is better for them in terms of photosynthesis, but most people think they look too yellow. We use the bluer (i.e., higher k) lights because they are more visually pleasing to us. If you're limited in total watts going over your tank it's better to err on the side of a lower k color temp.

If you wanted to upgrade your lights, get rid of your actincs. They do next to nothing for any real photosynthesis. You can get the same visual color look by using some more blue bulbs (is it aquablue plus? I forget, it's been awhile since I've had T5's). They put out some serious PAR, but have nearly the same visual look as actinics.

Does your fixture have individual reflectors? Assuming yes, I think you have enough light to give it a go right now. More would be beneficial using my suggestion above, but put it up higher and you should be fine.

were can you 20000k in t5's i would love to find some and replace my attinics i aggree with bthe photosythasis be low to none from attinics any one out there no were

yes, ATI Blue Plus bulbs give a nice blue color and exceptional PAR. I think the OP has enough light with the proper bulbs, as mentioned, change the actinics for ATI Blue Pluses.

I'd suggest you consult TheGrimReefer on the T-5 thread in the lighting and equipment if you have any questions about your lighting. He's very knowledgeable and quick to reply.
