I am relatively new to keeping them but I've had a rose bta for a little more than a week. I have done more research on them in the last 6-8 months than I have ever researched anything. its borderline obsessive lol. anyhow from everything I've read and even from a few posts on here btas splitting is very natural and even more common in home aquariums than in the wild. I've heard various reasoning for splitting such as stress ..over feeding....drastic change in light or water quality....however it seems the most popular belief is that a happy well taken care of bta will split when it is in optimal conditions and health. I've read that this is a way for them to "share" the good conditions w their "offspring " even though a split is more or less a clone than offspring . just monitor your new nem closely and I would say wait a week or so until he has made himself comfortable and try n feed him a little. just don't do anything drastic to quickly keep up regular water changes and monitor your water params very closely. bta and all nems for that matter need consistency in light and water quality to thrive. you can check out karensroseanemones.net its a very helpful site and I'm sure others with experience in this matter will chime in soon enough. a picture would be awesome too if u could and maybe some info about your tanks water params and equipment would help as well. good luck and please keep us posted!!
Thx for your replies. Im doing a scheduled 20gallon water change tomorrow and I'll be testing water as well. The original bta looks like its trying to move and the other one is in the back near the glass. I'll try and take a pic once they settle again.
