Bubbles everywhere???

I just changed my lighting from 4x65 PC to 2x150MH with 4x65PC. It's only been 2 days since I changed the lighting and I notice bubbles forming everywhere. If I (or the fish) stir the sand at all, many bubbles come up. Also, bubbles have formed on the LR. Any idea what is causing this? Why would more light cause these bubbles?

Thanks,

Mike

Hummmm, that is a new one on me. I wouldn't think the lights would cause bubbles.

I'm going to have to defer to someone else.

Pat

Wow, its nice to see that someone else is having the same problem as I am. Recently, since I've got my tax return, I upgraded my lighting to metal halide, and I am still experiencing the same problems. Clear bubbles that cover everything, sand rock, and sometimes even coral. Some of the responses to my previous post were that this was a natural process, and that routine water changes would help this. But since then I have been doing 30g water changes in a 75g tank on a weekly base. I have seen a "little" difference, but I have found on my own that changing the mechanical filtration media frequently (I change my filter pads in my w/d filter 2x a week) will dramatically help, moreso than the water changes( not that you should avoid a routine water change). I am still battling this situation, but so far it has had no effect on my corals, which is good news. I can only recommend changing filtration media very frequently, and doing water changes. I wish the best of luck to you, and if you find a good remedy, please, let me know, as, like I said, is still a problem for me. Best of luck!

Well, I have a DSB and was hoping that all it needed to remove my nitrate was strong lighting (hense the bubbles). I tested my nitrates and there still above 20ppm. I noticed that the bubbles are forming under the sand which lead me to believe that the DSB was starting to be productive. I will test again in a week.

Same here, I'm still cycling so I really haven't had my MH on all the time. But when I have I've noticed bubbles forming on the rocks right under the MH? What gives?

I noticed it, too, during my recent set-up, and suspect it's either a function of heating gases into bubbles (the radiation from the mh is strong and heats light surfaces) or gigging the microfauna into stronger action, hence more respiration. Both theories could be wrong, but you're not imagining it.

One guess I have (same situation but not too many bubbles) is that the live-rock method of natural filtration does return nitrogen into the environment. When I turn my circulation off to feed my fish I can see a small but steady release of bubbles from my live rock. This is based on no research and possibly could also be CO2 and not nitrogen.

My experience has been you will get a bubble bloom before an algae outbreak....... but I could be wrong pics would help.

This is not a brand new setup. I've been running for several months with PC. I only started seeing the bubbles forming when I added the MH lighting.

I am also having this problem and my tank has been running for over a year, but since upgrading from just over 100watts to 300watts my liverock, corals are covered in small air bubbles. These bubbles start to form when the MH's go on in the moring & once the lights are off, they start to dissapear/float to the surface. Its very annoying & makes the tank look awful.

I can only persume thats its down to the increased amount of light the tank is getting, but wheh it will stop is anyones guess.
