bubbling bubble tips

Now as of yet, no one really knows the reason why bubbles bubble. But we could have some guide on what is working for people. I have yet to see my two bubble tips bubble, but was wondering if anyone with success could share with us your set-up (lighting, flow, hosting clowns, feeding) so we can see what works for some of you.

I have 3 bbta. The 2 rbta are bubbled and the green one is not, although it came with nice bubbles. The green bbta lost its bubbles when it first hosted my occellaris couple, but when they entered one of the rbta, nothing happened and it continued bubbled. I think feeding is an important matter as one of my rbta recovered its bubbles after I started feeding it.

yea, I recieved a rbta and when I first put it in the tank he bubbled, then when he moved the bubbles went away. What kind of food are you feeding it? and how often?

from what i was informed by a knowledgeable resource about btas is that when they are hungry they expand there tentacles to catch food, when they are happy and full they go back to normal form(bubbled), if they are not expanded and not bubbled it could be a numerous ammount of variables such as stress, light, underfeeding... etc.. but a happy bta is bubbled

there's somewhere between 35 and 40 rbtas in my tank, and the default for them is without a doubt 'not bubbled'. one thing i have noticed is that whenever one of them gets inspired to bubble, the tentacles of other anemones that come in contact with the bubbled nem....will bubble as well. not the whole nem, just those tentacles in immediate contact with other already bubbled tentacles.

i can't say if there's just a particular flow in that spot, a particular lighting situation, some sort of anemone chemical cooties, or whatever else may be causing it, just something i've noticed.

to round out the anecdote, i guess....they're under 1600w MH, 2x10k 400w, 2x20k 400w, and i haven't intentionally fed them for over a year. they showed the same behavior whether being regularly fed or not.

I'm posting my two bubbles, the green one has been giving me more trouble with overall health but still looks good. They both were fed plankton this morning...so this is them after they have eaten. I'm going to start feeding them krill and see if I can see any kind of different reaction. Already with the RBTA, the tentecles have shorten and gotten fatter because of feeding. I'll feed some krill on thursday and see how they like that.

I feed mine a small amount of krill once or twice a week.

addicted2reefin....you didnt tell us about your own anemone...on what information are you basing the statement that "but a happy bta is bubbled "..... until todays date even the more advanced aquarists are still trying to understand the whole bubble factor, even in the wild you find one bubbled and one right next to it without any bubbles....my anemone was bubbled at the LFS under poor conditions and never bubbled in my tank.....in my experience if any anemone is not happy it will let you know, and if you dont do anything about it will eventually die, therefore, if you statement is correct, why would then an unhappy anemone (without bubbles) would live for years?

yea..that's a false statement (not bubbling is unhealthy)...I've been looking at anemones that do bubble and I think size is a big thing. I think the larger it is the less it will bubble. But I've seen large BTA split and then the clones bubble. some food for thought. I'm actually hoping mine does split to see if anything different happens so I will start feeding him more. another factor I have been seeing is most that bubble are under 250W bulbs, I have no idea why this is but that seems to be the case. another factor is the common set up for bubbling is the light about 18" above the water and the water being roungly 16". These are about the set up that liveaquaria uses and they always have bubbling anemones.
I used to go to a LFS that had a clam/anemone tank and this is what they ran and all their bubble tips bubbled. But they ran 400W 20K.

Mine are under 150W 14k MH and the rbbta are bubbled. But my aquarium is shallow.

Once or twice a week when I get around to it. It isn't on a schedule
