I have linked to my sump an 8g pail full of live rock and it is topped with about 100 healthy mangrove plants. i know the roots grow deep. I have very low flow (a 600 maxijet pwrhd) going into the pail from my sump and returning via gravity to my sump. As well, i have a small maxijet in the pail itself which i haven't seen for over a year because i don't want to disturb what's in the pail. i am sure this pump is clogged.
I am wondering how long can such a set up be utilized before it is useless or becomes a hazard for nitrates or phosphates? Or should i not worry and just let it be? also, I am afraid to disturb or stir things up in the rock and mangrove pail.
lately i am having issues with green cyno in my display and not sure it is linked.
overall, what i want to do is revamp my sump using a large rubber-maid bucket and link another tank through this sump as well.
should i remove the rock and mangroves and place them in the new sump or just leave it as is and link it to the new sump as it is now?
cheers
