ok so whose got a guide or how to on grtting the most basic budget quarantine tank set up.
seems to me i should just grab a 10 gal with a heater and a airstone.
is a powerhead needed in such a small tank?
do you need a light for the QT tank?

I did total bargain basement QT.
$13 filter
$7 heater
$4 airstone
$3 PVC elbow

Everything else was leftovers. No power head for 10 g
Set up near lamp or other tank and no light needed.
I did buy 20 gal long at $1 per gal sale, I did add small power head to that, which is new QT tank. Spent $6 for it on Amazon.

^^ pretty much all you need.

The lighting is more for you to observe the fish for signs of disease / stress.

Glad your looking into QTing your fish :)

I'd get a 20-29 gal just as 10 is pretty small. But yes, a heater and a powerhead. A basic light is nice, but not necessary. I use a hang-on filter and remove the carbon from it. A couple large 4-5" diameter PVC elbows/T-fittings so the fish have some hiding spaces.

ok. and the filters arejust the hang on kind they sell for freshwater?

yea i dont have any fish or livestock just reading alot about people wishing they had set one up before they needed it

Watch carbon filters if you have to treat: carbon uptakes meds so the fish don't get them. But outside of that, yes, fine unless the fish is a bit large for the tank, in which case it needs strong circulation (always a good idea with marine fish). Oxygenation needs to be much stronger than you'd think: if you ever spot a fish hanging near the surface, oxy shortage is an immediate concern.
