So that is just budding of the xenia? For some reason I thought they would split near the "foot."
I neglected to mention that I have three stalks in my talk, that I purchased recently (from TracyJean on CIMA)...and all three of them began to exhibit these protrusions simultaneously. So I was thinking that they were all getting ill together.
If they are all the same genetic material it would reason they would react similarly, and even unrelated xenia seem to be sympathetic. I have not seen any Xenia "pox" or parasitism that looked like this- but hey this is how we learn! Keep the updates- you will know real quick!
Xenia can and will split anywhere and anywhen. Don't be surprised to see tentacles/ arms developing on your bumps very soon. I have seen xenia "drop" fully formed babies like a kenya tree so be prepared for little xenia being blown all over your tank.
Good luck!
Sometimes when I see this happen to the xenia in my tank, I will try to put a rock near the protrusion, if possible, and soon it will attach itself to the new rock to spread. This is how I now have it all over my back glass.
