Build Glass Tank?

Whys

New member
I want a couple of small 4 to 5 gallon glass tanks to use for my sump and fuge. I'm considering buying the glass in sheets and putting it together myself. What I want to know is...

Will a 5 gallon tank need a frame around the top and bottom, or is there silicone strong enough that I can just glue it?

Kau_cinta_ku,

You just made my day! =)

BTW, the guy answering the emails at glasscages.com is an arrogant jack@ss. :)

Now I don't have to worry about them.

Peace.

yeah, I heard they can be rude. I have never delt with them personally but their prices are so cheap it is very tempting :D

glad I could help.

The thicker the glass you use will have more surface area for the silicone to bond with at the seams.

A tank that small would not need a frame or euro bracing,The tanks made by glasscages are made pretty good.I have heard more than one complain about their customer service.Below is a tank made by glasscages that someone bought, and they dropped it.The bottom glass was cracked pretty good.I replaced the glass and so far no leaks.Good luck with your build. Sorry for hijacking your thread.
