building a canopy

I am building a canopy for my tank. I am using 150w- 2(65w) coralife aqualight pro retro. Does anyone know if I should keep the top open or close it up. I have two fans to install also. The only reason to leave it open would be for any heat. Anyone have an idea how far off the water I should try to keep the light.

You are using a 150w MH & 130w of PC?

If I remember correctly the MH should be around 8" above the water and the PC can be close if you want.

There are quite a few threads about building canopies in the DIY forum, you may have to do a search.

You can keep the top open or closed. It doesn't matter. Light however will shine through an open top. Some people don't like that and enlcose the top.

id think that if you have the mh far enough off the water and the fans running you would be able to close the top.
but keep the back open to alow it to breath
