Building a waterfall...any thoughts?

Hello all

I have a 190 rimless reef in a public building...

Looking to extend my aquascape and build a waterfall that flows back into tank.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Excessive salt creep, microbubbles and possible algae issues on the waterfall due to the higher lighting (think algae turf scrubber) are all concerns.

Google "volcano reef tank" and you'll see a tank that had a waterfall.

Yea depending on how you do it I could imagine it would be an algae and salt creep magnet. I certainly wouldn't try it for a public tank without first doing a trial run on a personal tank. Just to work out the kinks.

Someone on here did one pretty successfully other than the volcano one. Can't find the thread.

Sand waterfall??

It's an in tank effect. More common in freshwater tanks as marine tank typically have too much flow and critters that would gladly take up residence in the pipe.

Not sure how this would react in a marine environment... But I have a N scale railroad setup, and they make stuff that drys hard, but looks very realistic in waterfall applications... The only problem I would be worried about would be leeching chemicals, and keeping it free of algae would be nearly impossible...

I've tried doing some research when I wanted a waterfall reef tank. Most builds i've seen started to fail after the 6 month mark. Mainly the corrosion from the salt creep. You can epoxy the rocks to help guide the stream better but they all seemed to fail eventually.

Let us know if your build works! Good luck .
