Building my first tank

Hello,

I am two months into my first reef tank (so far just fish and live rock). I have a blue hippotang and yellow tang. Eventually I would like to get a seahorse or two. My tank is 30 gallons. A few questions...

1. What equipment/tank do I need to get a seahorse?
2. What variation is good for a beginner?
3. What fish or inverts should I avoid adding to my tank?
4. Anything else I should know?

Thanks

Please brings those tangs back to the fish store and do more research. I'm not trying to be mean but you would need at least a 120 gallon tank for them. Also seahorses are very difficult to keep and need certain requirements especially not with two large tangs

My opinion is to keep seahorses by themselves with some hermits, snails, pods and maybe a Mandarin or File fish, yea I i know that's not exactly by themselves ;-) Tanks on the taller side also make more sense. They like slow steady water flow with one or two spots with good flow. Lots of macro algae makes them feel right at home. Whatever filter system you go with get one rated for a tank twice the size you will use. Remember seahorses need to eat more than most at least 2 to 3 times a day so the load is even higher than a fish only tank!

Good luck!
