building my stand

Hey guys i will be starting out my build for my new tank tomorrow. just need some tips or input.
The tank is a 72 Long 30 wide 24 tall
The stand i am planing will be 40 inches tall

Tank its self is glass and has front side Starfire. With two overflows on each corner. (2) 1.5 inch overflows and (2) 3/4 inch returns.

Here is the thing i have never made an aquarium stand before. But my friend is a carpenter and he will make it and i will assist him.

So any one out there have a 225g tank that can show me pictures of the structural build. also what kind of wood you used to build it.

So far i i think 2x4's are used and 4x4's also. with a 3/4 inch plywood on the top of the supports. I plan for this stand to have side opening doors and front doors also. to fit my 72g sump inside.
We are shooting to complete the whole stand in two days. we will start early at 8am and work on it till late night. then the second day will be finishing up wood work and then paint it. If we can finish all the wood work in one day and apply a coat then the next coat next day that would be cool.

This tank i got used from a fellow reefer here on RC his name is Frank. Really good guy. Unfortunatly when i was going to pick up the tank the movers cracked the front startfire panel and left panel. So right now its being repaired. Also i am getting the whole silicone on all the panels redone so it will be like new again.
Here are some pick of the cracked tank. ill take some pics of the new tank once i get it next week. Also will post pics as the stand gets made.

FYI, John the guy who build my stand is back and ready to do some work.

Look like you have a lot of scrubbing to do..

Yeah man it had alot of coraline on it. but the manufactuer is gona clean it up for me since they are going to resilicone it all. Cool so John is back and making the metal stands. Can you PM me his number or do i just PM him?

See told ya a couple months ago Steve that i would be upgrading so here we are hehe.

I too am wondering about the wood construction of a stand for the 72x30x24 tank. I was going to use 2x4's and 2x6's for the top frame.

So now that everyone is home if you have a 225 with these dims can you please post up to see how your structure is. Also what size wood you used? Nails or screws? What type of wood. the Home depot kind? I heard something of not using wood that has to many knots in it??

Why, Why sorry i have so many questions.

thanks

That's exactly how I built my stand, which is 72 x 48. 2x4 stud walls, with a 2x6 floor on top. It is all just standard frame construction, using construction nails. The structure doesn't have any lateral strength unless you attach plywood to at least 2, non-opposing, sides. The plywood was screwed to the studs.
