Buildup of a 90 gallon Reef (picture intensive)

Glad I found your thread. I wish I had followed it from the start. I am in the early planning stages of a 90. Very nice job on everything. Very nice.

I had to have a talk with the little punk. :lmao:

I don't think I've mentioned it in this thread but I just got done doing a redbug treatment last night. So far everything seems okay.

Next up is a treatment for flatworms.

QT Ryan, QT!

The water was a bit cloudy last night, not sure why.

I didn't want to do it due to my pods and whatnot being wiped out.

Here's the macro that confirmed I had them:

HEHE pods can be replaced, but on the other hand a corals growth takes much much much longer to recover from these bugs... I say nuke'em till they glow!!

Thanks VWD

The treatment went well. I was able to get all hermits I could find as well as the shrimp. I was mostly worried about my electric blue hermit crab as I've had him over two years and I got him out and in my other tank.

I don't see any bugs on the corals with my naked eye so I plan on taking some more macros today to see if I can spot them.

I still don't have much if any polyp extension though.

I have never heard of these redbugs before. What should I look for? Those tiny specs in the pic that look like mites? What do they eat? thanks

cg

I don't know much about them other than seem to get on acro's and prevent polyp extension as they feed on the coral.

Well I havn't tryed any acros yet. I want to stay with my few lps and soft corals until I get a better control of my water chemistry.

I just took some more macro shots and don't see any on the corals. Here's to hoping I don't have to attack again!

yea i had redbugs once.. Really small and they actually appear yellowish orange with tiny red dot.. How I noticed them was no polyp extension on 2 of my favorite corals, also the corals color went away dramaticlly so I knew it was stressed.. the interceptor pill i used worked wonders and havent seen them since..
