Built in Waveboxes

jnarowe, I thought I read on your build thread or somewhere that Steve Weast was working on a built in wavebox, what's his rc username?

A member on our local forum did one of these a year or two ago on his 120.

Those are not waveboxes though. He is just hiding his Tunze Streams from what I can see, Right?. Thanks for posting the links. Thats a nice looking tank.

open top...dangerous!!

For fear of water overflowing the top or structurely dangerous?

I ended up running my waveboxes front to back(48") instead of left to right(108") just so that my overflow stayed consistant since my skimmer is T-eed off the 2" over flow drain, otherwise the skimmer would get inconsistant flow which = poor skimming. I also added 2-6100's to the slave side of the controller and so I get 2 inches of rise and fall in the 48inches, it pushes any fish poop to the back wall where it can be siphoned-just some thoughts

why not just lower your drain pipes a bit(and tune them with a gate valve) then just add a higher "emergency" drain. It would make it almost silent and you wouldnt need to worry about an overflow.

Doing the wave from front to back instead of down the long side is just not efficient.

I'm not following you here, no overflow? then no surface skimming? not a good idea if that's what you meant

no i ment lower the pipes in the overflow box, and the extra drain would mean you wouldnt need to worry about the tank itself overflowing

steveweast. But he may not answer your PM. I already forwarded a link to this thread, so if he wants to add something, he will. He is designing a tank around built in waveboxes and from the sound of it, Envision will be upsizing him considerably.

Front to back is not an option for me. I want the viewing window to be clear of any plumbing/powerheads. The only powerheads that will be visible will be the far right side of the tank where the 6101's will be.

My tank is only 3/4" Acrylic so I dont plan on making huge waves in my tank. Im tooo chicken. But what Im hoping get out of these is some good Random flow in addition to what Im going to get from the 4 6101's. Plus I really like the swaying motion you get in a softie tank with these waveboxes.
