I'm just back from a year overseas, so I haven't really kept up with WRS.

Wondering: do you all get together and do group internet orders of livestock to save on shipping?

I'd be interested in that. I don't know if it's something you all do regularly or not. I was looking at Premium Aquatics. It seems like they have pretty good prices, but shipping always kills you.

I live in Antioch and am within the 1 day delivery zone for ground packages. I have ordered most of my stuff from them (LiveRock, cleanup crew, misc. drygoods) and have always gotten it the next day using UPS Ground.

Check with them and see if you are within the same area. It used to be that if you lived within 150 miles of the shipper you would get it next day guaranteed but UPS recently upgraded some of their major hubs to make packages faster. I'm sure the Chicago hub was one that was upgraded.

So what do you pay for ground then?

For my liverock I got 30 # and ended up paying $33 dollars so around a dollar a pound.

Cleanup crew was around $10.
Drygoods are between $7-10

Every once in a while we will have a group order from someplace depending on the demand. At other times, people just post when they are doing an order and others can jump in to split the shipping. Sometimes the orders are large enough in volume to actual have the shipping charges dropped, or to get extra discounts above and beyond the normal prices.
